Mass Comm Students Receive First Place for PSA


June 26, 2015 - During the spring semester, twelve Shaw University Mass Communications (MCO) students competed and won first place in the HBCU Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest sponsored by the Morehouse School of Medicine. The purpose of the competition was to raise public awareness aboutstudent behaviors that cause students to fail in life. Shaw’s MCO student produced a 30 second PSA titled "Do the Right Thing."

The students worked under the guidance and direction of video production professor Watricia Shuler and MCO Department Chair Dr. Cassandra Mitchell. They entered the contest under the jurisdiction of Jerlene Carver who accepted the award at the national conference in San Antonio, Texas. The project was a part of the Behavioral Health Capacity Expansion Mini-Grant Program and was one of many activities sponsored through the Counseling Center in an effort to promote Gambling Awareness Day.
