Mass Comm Students Win Environmental PSA Awards

MassComm Environmental PSA 2015

June 30, 2015 - Three Mass Communications (MCO) students were named winners of the 2015 City of Raleigh Environmental Awards Competition last semester. The students won in the Emerging Professionals-Donna Jackson Trailblazer category for their 30-second public service announcements (PSA). MCO students Cassandra Cook and Jessica Turner took first place while student Korey Merritt took third place.

Winners received cash awards in the amount of $1,500 for first place, $750 for second place and $500 for third place, in addition to receiving an engraved water carafe as a trophy. 

Awards were presented at the 2015 City of Raleigh Environmental Awards Celebration held Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

The City of Raleigh established the Environmental Awards to recognize the outstanding work in environmental stewardship. The program recognizes individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to the environment in our community. The mass communications students worked under the guidance and direction of video production professor Watricia Shuler and MCO Department Chair Dr. Cassandra Mitchell.
