• Beyond the Wall: Enhancing the Blount Street Corridor

On the eve of its 150th anniversary, Shaw University seeks to strengthen the vibrant communities surrounding its campus with an imaginative, hands-on project that will engage residents, government, business and community leaders in discussion about the shared rich history of the City of Raleigh and the University.

From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, from past to present-day social justice concerns, the proposed mural project will highlight cross-cultural stories that will serve to transform individual lives in the low-income neighborhoods surrounding Shaw’s campus.  An investment in the Blount Street Mural Project is an investment in transformative potential that will go far beyond the wall.

    The Goal

The fundraising goal of $135,000 will support community programming, artist selection, mural creation, lighting, infrastructure improvements, and maintenance. The mural will be unveiled during Shaw University’s 150th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for November 2015.
